The Communication media for Prisons
MultiScreen has proved to be the ideal tool for communication within prisons.
Connected to the prison’s existing TV antennae/ distribution system, a dedicated in-house channel is created alongside the traditional stations.
With a television set in each cell, all TV’s can be tuned to both BBC1 and 2, ITV 1 and Channel 4 plus a newly created channel, with a programme dedicated to the prisoners. Within this application MultiScreen is extremely easy to use in the creation, scheduling and management of all content. The channel can carry static and animated texts, graphics, pictures, audio, live feeds and DVD’s.
Your in-house channel becomes the prison’s general information service. It can be used for educational purposes and can carry certain types of entertainment, including lots of music if desired.
Content displayed in the cells may include details of all the different:
- Courses available to prisoners
- Information about the library
- Chaplaincy services
- Changes in meal menus
- Security notices
- Re-settlement news
- Gym opening times and so on
In short, a comprehensive prison communication and information service. Induction processes are very much simplified as well.
At many sites prisoners themselves get involved with interesting content material which can inspire others. Additionally, their involvement gives them a sense of ownership which can lead to raising confidence and self esteem.
Communicating with people who do not have English as their first language is made far easier with MultiScreen by using pictures, diagrams and graphics. Slow scrolling text is useful as well.
Many current MultiScreen users claim that with the versatility the system offers, it has a real role to play in rehabilitation.
